Odysseo: The Equestrian Spectacular by Cavalia

There are no shuffling clowns or pacing lions beneath Odysseo’s White Big Top. A peek inside instead a 3-dimensional forest complete with roving clouds overhead, blue waters lapping on the shore and horses grazing pensively. Real horses. But no ordinary horses.

In a theatrical display of human-equine bonding, 47 acrobats, dancers, and gymnasts share the ring with more than 60 multi-talented horses. The horses play a role in every trick: whether their riders are twisting into handstands on the saddle or acrobats are twirling on aerial silks controlled by riders below. The scenery behind all of this changes at the right moment thanks to a video backdrop the size of three IMAX screens.

A live band and a real carousel add even more to this already immersive experience. This extravagant production is designed for maximum thrills. This comes as no surprise given its $30 million budget and brilliant direction coming straight from the inspired mind of one of the co-founders of Cirque du Soleil.
